K August10 de abril de 2026I have no qualms giving this a ten-star review! It is, simply, the best Shakespearean adaptation ever made to use none of the bard's language. I watched this as a student, then as an graduate student who used it as a means to comment on Japan and Shakespeare's influence on the culture and arts. And now I watch it as someone who has been to Japan, seen both kabuki and noh theatre up close, and wondered just how Akira Kurosawa created this steady and beautiful epic.
Please watch and never forget it!

Charlie_Hammond25 de agosto de 2025Among Kurosawa’s many Shakespeare adaptations, "Throne of Blood" stands out. Though rooted in "Macbeth," it feels distinctly Japanese in tone, structure, and atmosphere. Even its sense of horror is deeply grounded in Japanese aesthetics, making it an extraordinary cultural reinterpretation.

Aaron_Garner22 de agosto de 2025It's evident that Akira Kurosawa didn’t just borrow from Western storytelling or camera techniques; he also drew heavily from Japanese Noh theater in both performance and staging. From a cinematic perspective, there’s much to be learned from his meticulous craft.
