A striking debut. The film explores the choice between civilization and wildness through a unique perspective, and an innovative theme. The music is excellent, and the young actress is mesmerizing. The handheld and shaky camera work occasionally clashes with the film’s dreamlike tone, yet the strong authorial voice is impossible to miss.

The young lead’s performance is astonishing, and the final musical cue is both sweeping and soulful. Still, the film’s message remains elusive. Is it a lament for post-disaster humanity, a meditation on the balance between man and nature, or a tribute to untamed vitality? The director juggles many ideas, though few land with clarity.

O título original é lindo, mas taí uma vez que a tradução dele não deixou a desejar. O filme é lindo, e não poderia ser de outra forma, porque se passa sob o ponto de vista inigualável e único de uma criança cujo mundo já não existe mais (e que em um mundo normal, já poderia ser muito interessante tbm). Quvenzhané Wallis é uma absoluta gigante em sua performance, e o filme é uma aventura tocante e emocionante que realmente mexe demais com a gente. Lindo, lindo, e lindo.
