Why don’t movie theaters fill up the way they used to?

Since the pandemic, we’ve seen theaters struggling compared to before. In fact, I think some big blockbusters have flopped for that very reason—films that once would’ve pulled in 700 or 800 million dollars worldwide now barely make 300 or 400 million. And I believe one of the reasons is the way movies are released on platforms like Netflix or Amazon Prime Video, plus physical distribution on Blu-ray. Back then, when a movie hit theaters, you had to wait three months before you could watch it at home. Now, sometimes it’s available in just a month, ready to stream from the comfort of your couch. What do you think might be behind this?
