Aging; evil nature
General ReviewsThe Substance is a good movie where a woman in the entertainment industry must always stay young. She discovers how to rejuvenate, but it is not her who rejuvenates; instead, a new version of herself is born as a clone. The new woman goes for the success and fortune that the original lost all rights to. However, when the new being, identical to her, starts to deteriorate, it needs to extract a substance from the original, slowly killing her and making her age more. The original woman tried to stop the unknown being, which is her clone, but the clone wanted more and more, destroying and killing the remnant of the original woman. Then, the clone, unable to obtain more substance, became a monstrous and repugnant being that exploded and splattered the audience who were waiting to see her on stage. All those who admired her and were there for that young and beautiful woman were horrified to see that horrible and disgusting being who died in an explosion.
In these times when no one wants to grow old. Aging is supposedly a natural process of the human body, but some scientists consider it a disease, the deterioration of the organism that leads to nothing but death, a kind of "you out, me in." You have expired, out of here, I am your replacement, nature is harsh and cruel and it doesn't matter if you agree, it goes against your feelings and how you feel. And it doesn't ask for your permission. Aging or the "murder" in quotes, because it is a way to ensure the elimination of those who are strong and have managed to survive for decades in this world and this life and continue to live to ninety, a hundred, or less. The essence is the human desperation to maintain what has always been seen as youth and vigor; no one is born old except for those who are born with some genetic problem, which are rare cases. This movie deals with the pain and suffering a person feels as they age and the desperation they have to regain what life itself has taken from them.
Although its premise completely relies on a science fiction concept and is monstrously horrific in its visual (and auditory) representations. It is a film that blends science fiction and horror in a way that makes you feel you understand the character who suffers from rejection and in her work feels that she is no longer sought after due to her aging. The plot unfolds due to the woman's aging, who wants to be young to maintain her job and fame in a very demanding environment.

It has a very striking stage design. There are other elements that reflect the strikingly precise visual effects of makeup and perfume ads, aligned with a beautiful aesthetic. With good sound design. Being a 2024 movie, it could be said that it's still fresh, but it leaves that bad taste in the mouth about its age and, on the other hand, how horrible some scenes are. You should watch it and then you can judge the movie. I thought it was good, a bit disgusting, but good.
