Make it real
General ReviewsNot an actress, that's what I would be if I had no seen “La la land” when I was 18 years old.
No movie makes me feel the way I feel when I watch that film.
As an 18 year old girl, I was struggling because I knew I loved acting, and until that moment I wanted I had just done theatre acting. I knew I wanted to do acting for film and make movies, but if being just a theatre actress seemed crazy, then the idea of acting in movies felt even more unreal.
I remember I was graduating from school, and even though I had so much clarity wanting to act, I just did not fully accept that. There weren't many actor, or anyone from cinematography that I knew; I had no one. But all changed after I saw this movie.

“La la land” is a musical about two artists: Mia, and Sebastian. Mia, who while works at a coffee shop, wants to be an actress; Sebastian, who while works at a bar, he wants to be a Jazz pianist. Both of them live in Los Angeles, and after their paths cross, they fall in love and decide to fight for their dream, together. However, life eventually forces them to choose between their romance and their dreams.
This magical film made me feel completely identified with both of them, yet specially, with Emma Stone's character: Mia. Her life is about working at the coffee shop while presenting thousands of auditions. All of them, however, were received in the same way by the producers: ignored or interrupted by them, constantly, doesn't stop her from persevering, and so she continues her pursue of her acting dream.

It is also one of those romantic movies without a “happily ever after”: resulting in a frustrated love, or even platonic one, of what could have been. Yet, it wasn't to be, as the last look in the last scene shows. There were a lot of people that hated that end, and I´m not saying its my favorite end either, but it was so real: they choose to sacrifice their relationship to follow their passion. For me, it was like putting the cherry on top of the cake.
I also have to mention it being a musical!I really loved that: a great number of musical pieces, so complete and different; each one unique to every scene. Many of them also had a lot of jazz, and as any good musical, with a lot of dance from the main characters.

It was definitely a dazzling film for me: containing all what I love, not just in the acting, but in showing how integrated cinema can be: music, dancing, singing, and filled with thousand of emotions in every scene. It made me fall more in love, not just with acting, but with films.
This movie pushed me to keep dreaming, teach that everything its possible. Even though, I didn't knew anyone who make movies, I wanted to.
So, back then, when I came out that cinema, I decided that, no matter what, no matter how, that's what I would dedicate my life to: acting
