My Firsts Steps
General ReviewsI remember that when I was a child, what I used to watch the most were cartoons. I almost didn't care about movies, because visually they didn't appeal to me much. Besides, cartoons were more magical, more unreal, more exaggerated, they were my way to truly detach myself from reality. And of course, as anyone can predict, the first movie that made me fall in love with cinema was an animated film, more specifically “Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas”.
Some will remember it, many will not, because as far as I know it was a flop at the time. To sum it up, the movie is about Sinbad, a pirate who has been accused of stealing one of the world's most valuable treasures, the mighty Book of Peace, which he must find and retrieve if he does not want his best friend, Proteus, to meet death. During the journey, Sinbad encounters many classic magical creatures, such as the Kraken, mermaids, cyclops, etc. Basically it's a fantasy story with pirates, that´s it, you don't need more than that. What more could you ask for? Watch it.
No kidding, when I first discovered it, I watched it at least 5 times a day. It had a huge influence on my childhood. Thanks to it, I started to like boats, the sea, fantasy and, above all, the idea of traveling to the unknown, thinking that the world is too big for us to have seen everything that can exist in it. Apart from that, it also led me to discover how incredible the human imagination is. With the fantastic elements I saw in the film my imagination also flew and the stories I made up in my head playing with my toys also became much more varied and interesting. For me, obviously.
And of course, as I was obsessed with the concepts and visuals that the movie had, I wanted to see more. Fortunately, at the same time, Pirates of the Caribbean movies came out, which were also a fantasy pirate movies, but live action. From then on, the door to the cinema was already open. I started watching more movies, both animated and live action, and from there, to this day, I haven't stopped. It was really the movie that started it all.
It was (or still is) one of those movies that are so special for someone that, no matter how many times you've seen it, no matter if you know it by heart, it still generates the same emotions as the first time. In fact I think that's what defines everyone's favorite movie, that your emotions are still alive after watching it more than once.
I may have talked more about how I feel about the film than the film itself, but I firmly believe that a film must be seen to be understood, and the best way to get someone to see it is not to tell what happens, but to tell how it feels to see it.
