Off Course... Death is not the End.

General Reviews

Astral City: A Spiritual Journey, directed by Wangner de Assis and released in Brazil in 2010.

The film tells us about the disembodiment of the doctor Andre Luiz and his experience upon reaching the afterlife.

Based on the book “Nosso Lar” dictated by the spirit Andre Luiz, who was in his previous incarnation on planet Earth, the Brazilian doctor Carlos Chagas, the discoverer of Chagas disease.

The medium who received this work through psychography or channeling was Francisco Candido Xavier or better known as Chico Xavier.

This book published in 1944 is a classic of world spiritualist literature and has become a study book for many mediums around the world.

Needless to say, the film is far from the wealth of information contained in the book.

But that does not stop it from being a hopeful and beatiful film. Its content is not science fiction and scientific studies on reincarnation reach approximately 150 in Pubmed, a world-renowned medical publication portal.

With hundreds of researchers and scientists of the spiritual reality that awaits us after the so-called "death" this film adds elements of truth that invite to serious studies of the subject.

Currently, the work with Instrumental Transcommunication of the Brazilian Sonia Rinaldi has managed to break the barriers of Anglo-Saxon disbelief, mainly in the United States where the understandable need for material and tangible evidence has put her to the test more than once.

Instrumental Transcommunication is the process to achieve communication with the spiritual plane through electronic devices. Within the film we can see some analogies with terrestrial technologies, clarifying the hermetic principle, as above, so below.

Andre Luiz crosses the threshold in a complicated moral situation. His character and food abuses classify him as an Unconscious Suicide, a correct diagnosis according to Clarencio's shocking explanations:

“...when could you imagine, Andre, that: rage, hatred, envy, intolerance and selfishness, would be part of a diagnosis...”

“You see, my friend, the term is self-explanatory. An act carried out over long, long years, the result is only one: Unconscious Suicide. Hundreds and hundreds of creatures leave life on Earth, for the same reasons every day. A true silent catastrophe...”

“Affliction does not solve problems. The good thing about life is that we can always start over.”

From the technical side, the film presents mysterious delights, despite the lack of experience with respect to previous work in the use of CGI, the rhythm keeps us attentive and the details enrich the experience.

The mistakes we can find are logical due to the pressure the director had from the point of view of the fidelity of the work. Spiritism being the third largest religion in Brazil, there was a lot of anxiety to see the final result.

The film achieves its objective, leaving the viewer with an open door and an intangible feeling in the greatness of the Creator of the Universe and his Divine laws.

The continuity of life is normalized, to the point of feeling that this is reality and reincarnation as a tool for spiritual progress is a fact.

There are curious anecdotes. One of them is that the actors when they were shooting the film if they were not in good health, they went to the hospital set and in a few minutes they recovered.

On the other hand, on January 25, 2024, the second part called: “Nosso Lar: The Messengers” was released in Brazil with the same director.

For all these reasons, this is a film that should be seen several times, since, like books, we always find new lessons for life and for the After Life.
