The series is very intriguing and well-produced, with excellent acting, music, cinematography, and plot; a must-see series.

Fortunately there's a good ending, but the setting is oppressively dystopian, with women reduced to mere tools for reproduction, and women themselves acting as accomplices in this degradation. It's a distasteful yet eerily realistic narrative.

Quite mediocre. The film's storyline isn't detailed, character development shallow, and it fails to utilize the theme to create an oppressive atmosphere. In comparison, the TV series offers more dramatic tension and is more engaging.

The film is a unique contemporary fantasy, serving as a sci-fi horror cautioning against future calamities, while including psychological analyses of gender relations. Its bizarre storyline warns of the societal consequences if nuclear and chemical pollution, religious fanaticism, and rampant sexuality are not curbed.

The visuals and film atmosphere are commendable, but it feels like an unfinished product. It simplifies a complex narrative into a tragic story of lower-class women being exploited by the upper class as surrogates. However, Aidan Quinn's really charming in this 1990 film, his sculpted good looks undeniable even from his limited screen time.

Given the popularity of the original novel, this film adaptation was bound to disappoint some fans, but the exceptional acting ensures the film is still watchable. It falls short of my hopes though.

This series is awesome! It totally outshines the book in terms of development, pacing, storytelling, and even the storyline itself, which is much broader here. Elisabeth is a perfect actress; she says so much with just a look. It's mind-blowing how a dystopian series can relate to real life, especially when you consider the book was written over 40 YEARS AGO.

I just finished watching this show, and it's truly remarkable. It stands out as one of the most thought-provoking and socially impactful pieces amidst the recent wave of dystopian themes. I'm itching to dive into the original work now. What's fascinating about the show is its focus on the female perspective, coupled with glimpses into the viewpoint of the ruling class. This unique approach truly brings the wild settings to life. But I gotta say, the show does have a bit of a downside—the production budget seems kinda limited, because the show definitely needs a vast, epic, and scarier setup.

This show is seriously one of the most oppressive American series I've ever seen. It's a rare and sharply provoking take on religious themes, showing a future world under extreme religious rule where women are divided into different classes and are seen as baby-making machines. What's even more unsettling is the reflection of similar events unfolding in the real world today. It's not something that happened all of a sudden; rather, it feels like a descent into a dystopian nightmare, where the very essence of humanity feels stripped away.

One of the best shows I've seen lately (NOT FOR SENSITIVE VIEWERS)

The Handmaid's Tale develops very well the feelings of the characters, the anguish of the dictatorship and the lack of freedom.
Complex and well-developed scenes, actors that give you real and raw emotions.

Realistic

This show is not easy to watch, it demands you having a healthy mind. They deal with all kinds of hard subjects, and some scenes are very explicit, so be sure that you are in a good moment before starting it. We could blame it on its very realistic and well written script, besides the award-winning cast that makes everything severer.

A fundamentalist dystopia

A society governed by a group of extreme fundamentalists is the clearest definition of a dystopia. This series is a warning about how dangerous religious authoritarianism can be and how it could end civilization.
