Bayona did such an awesome job transforming the narrative, since everyone knows this story as "that time some people got lost and ate each other", cuz the previous movie about it apparently was all about the cannibalism dilemma. And Society of Snow does this beautiful depiction of empathy and care for each other for survival, so harsh and beautiful, I cried so much

This movie successfully recreates the real-life event, paying meticulous attention to the details of the plane crash. It effectively captures the characters' complex emotions and evolving feelings in the face of the struggle between faith and survival. The grand and breathtaking Andes Mountains in front of them starkly contrast their diminishing hope for survival. This conflict of emotions truly shocks me.

I'd rate this film a 6.5 out of 10. It's based on an actual event, but the overall quality is just average. It lacks the necessary dramatic elements and doesn't have enough climactic moments. Maybe the real world, just like how it is depicted in the film, doesn't have so many twists and turns. Unfortunately, the potential highlights and detailed portrayals are wasted under the director's guidance, resulting in a flat, monotonous, and sleep-inducing movie. Sometimes, hyper-realism isn't the best approach for disaster films.

This disaster film is based on a real plane crash. The director, who also made "The Impossible," suggests that the will to survive in adversity is more awe-inspiring than any miracle. Instead of solely showing brutality in the choice between survival and cannibalism, the film offers hope and spirituality. It deserves respect, just like other survival films, such as "The Rescue."

This movie straightforwardly tells a gripping story. The director even dedramatizes at times to keep the story engaging, which actually shows his attitude to this film creation at the same time. Instead of going for the typical survivor as the main character, the film takes a representative but unconventional approach to lead the story. However, the portrayal of the ensemble cast falls a bit short, maybe because there are too many characters.

Based on a true story, this film depicts a survival story following a plane crash in a snowy wilderness. The real-life snowy landscapes are especially beautiful, and the actors bring out a heartwarming side of human nature amidst the extreme conditions. Watching this film requires patience and a high level of concentration, as it is quite lengthy and delves heavily into details, which made me feel drowsy at times in the middle. The ending is very touching. Overall, it's still worth a watch.

It's truly breathtaking. The sound effects, music, cinematography, makeup, and more are all incredibly well done. This movie is really made for the big screen; it's only in theaters where you can truly appreciate the rich sound design and the evolving beauty of the snowy landscapes. The pacing and structure of the film are surprisingly impressive. As a disaster movie, it constantly subverts the audience's expectations for the plot. The crises unfold rapidly, and the final resolution arrives in a clever and unexpected way. I'm sure the audience, like me, would be completely drawn in by the film's emotions and atmosphere, especially after the certain expectation for the “voice-over narrator” is shattered.

The incident itself was too shocking, and the movie restoration was always disappointing.
