dipajsJuly 21, 2024As a standalone film focusing on Snow, I found it more engaging than the original series. Contrary to some reviews criticizing its pacing, I appreciated the narrative flow, which effectively conveyed Snow's nuanced emotions. The character development is compelling, making Snow's charm and complexity palpable.

Pedro.01July 21, 2024The "suspension-bridge effect" allows the protagonists to bond quickly, and like the titular songbirds and snakes, two unrelated beings find love amidst chaos. The ending is particularly poignant; Snow appears to have won it all, yet Lucy, like an elusive songbird, remains a haunting memory thats mocks him from above with her songs.

Almeida-manJune 23, 2024The singing in this movie is terrific, but the music tends to overshadow the plot, as the storytelling lacks power. It's filmed with a strong contrast of lights and shadows, creating a vivid juxtaposition that symbolizes irreconcilable forces. The red-clothed youth gradually reveals the brutal reality. The plot moves at a tight pace, although it does rush a little sometimes. Overall, the film amplifies power struggles, class conflicts, and the transformations of human nature in the real world.

Pub-21June 23, 2024As a prequel, this movie is all right. It does satisfy everyone's curiosity about the backgrounds of a few important characters. However, it falls short when presenting the necessary political intrigue and thrilling moments, especially considering that there have already been 10 games. It also fails to showcase the undeniable brilliance of human nature. Additionally, the actors didn't really capture the characters' motivations effectively.

João1980June 23, 2024This movie could have been better. The pacing is a bit uneven, which makes the plot feel scattered. The characters aren't fully developed, except for the two main leads and two designers, who are portrayed with distinct traits. Personally, I don't think Rachel Zegler was the most suitable choice for the role of Lucy Gray Baird, but it could also be due to her acting skills needing improvement. By the way, this is the first time I've seen her in a leading role. Tom Blyth's performance is decent, and he fits the role quite well. Nice job.

wickeremergedMarch 28, 2024Just finished watching "The Ballad of Songbirds and Snakes", and as a prequel to the series, I find it even better than the original four books. The most surprising aspect for me is the change in style. While the original series focuses on the tributes from District 12 and the rebellion to create a sci-fi dystopian movie, this installment instead focuses on the managers in the Capitol. It feels more like a psychological thriller, sending shivers down your spine and leaving you deeply disturbed. Additionally, the movie elevates the core of the "Hunger Games" series to a new level. As a prequel, watching it while knowing the fates of the characters adds to the fatality of it all.

biacarneirodf_March 9, 2024I had high expectations for this film, because the book was fantastic. It's sad to say that the movie turned out terrible. Tom Blyth did a good job with his acting in this film. The rest of the cast... not so much. Rachel Ziegler is a very talented singer with a great voice. However, she just isn't a great actress. The film had the worst casting I've ever seen for a spinoff of a successful series. Also, the movie was long and drawn out. All in all, I'm very disappointed.

Tusch74March 9, 2024As someone who's read the book, seeing it come to life on screen was incredible. It's always fascinating to see how certain elements from the book were adapted for the screen, giving a new perspective to the story I know so well. The production value, sets, and overall atmosphere were simply amazing, capturing the essence and visuals of the book perfectly. The music, especially "The Hanging Tree" that Katniss sang in the original trilogy, was a standout, nicely tying this prequel to the original trilogy. Also, the song "Can't Catch Me Now" by Olivia Rodrigo was a great fit for the movie's mood and themes.

theohoratioDecember 20, 2023
theohoratioDecember 20, 2023The first two parts of the film run at a relatively normal pace. However, the script struggles to keep up as the movie progresses to the crucial third act, where Snow's personality begins to transform. The shift from neutral kindness to chaotic neutrality, and then to lawful evil, is largely present, but it all feels a bit stale. Additionally, the other characters feel completely flat and generic.

Timeless Tales BWDecember 20, 2023
Timeless Tales BWDecember 20, 2023The true "hunger" game unfolds in the slaughter outside of the Hunger Games. The film presents believable character transformations. Only those who have truly experienced the darkness and cruelty of the arena of the world itself abandon their ideals. Love has always been a person's Achilles heel, so when a person is devoid of love, fear dissipates. This movie stands out this year in its worldview, entertainment value, and narration. The newcomer, Tom Blyth, is absolutely charming.

tinaShayDecember 20, 2023When faced with a threat to life, will one choose to be a songbird or a snake? The film delves into the complex and dark side of human nature through three chapters, recounting the rising of President Snow and unfolding his journey to pursue power before the audience. A young man ensnared in love, kindness, evil, and power, ultimately walks in his father's steps. The visuals and music are stunning, and the leading actress's singing is truly beautiful.

bubblepoppypop December 20, 2023The story actually sounds pretty good on paper, and I could feel the effort that went into crafting the meticulous and intricate buildups. However, the actual execution feels kinda weak. But when compared to today's Hollywood films, especially those that have been milked to death with countless lousy prequels and sequels, it's truly commendable that the writers of this film are willing to create such a complete and independent story, even though it's still rough on the edges. By the way, the male lead is really hot.
