Easily an improvement over the first, I had a lot of fun with this. Obviously, there’s a lot of unnecessary scenes involving a certain wedding, and Eggman flosses like 20 minutes in. AND Jim Carrey goes way too overboard, which I didn’t think was possible; he was not nearly as enjoyable to watch as he was in the first. But overall, it was a competently made film with good action, some decent jokes when they weren’t just literal references, a lot of cool fan service to the games, etc. Could’ve been so much worse, but I’m glad it’s a decent film.

“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is a step up from its predecessor, introducing more game accurate characters and a story that, while not fantastic, is a whole bunch of fun. Ben Schwartz returns to voice Sonic and he does so superbly, the character is just as annoyingly charming as the first time around, but it’s Idris Elba's Knuckles and Colleen O'Shaughnessey's Tails that improve this one drastically. The best moments are undeniably when all three are together with Sonic being an utter joy, Tails being absolutely adorable and Knuckles being a complete badass throughout. Of course the film has its weaker moments. Jim Carrey does his best but the script never completely works and while James Marsden is still great, it’s the human side of the story that’s by far the weakest. Nevertheless, “Sonic the Hedgehog 2” is a great improvement on the first film, delivering on what a video game adaptation should be, a celebration of what makes the game series worth remembering after all these years. While it’s let down by a few bad choices and some awful jokes, it makes up for it with its sincere portrayals of friendship and three lovable characters that you truly care for by its conclusion. Make sure to stay for the mid credit scene, you won’t want to miss it!

Count me in as long as Jim Carrey is still in it! There's no doubt about that! But overall, this movie falls short compared to its predecessor. I really enjoyed the live-action feel and tone of this series—it's quite heartwarming, but this one feels a bit too preachy, once again. Plus, this movie is a textbook example of a good commercial film, as the shortcomings it has are all too typical: the transitions between major scenes are weak and lackluster, and the character portrayals, including Sonic, all feel a bit too childish and stereotypical. Or is it just me?

The movie switched it up and became a superhero film, with bigger action scenes and a grander scale. However, compared to the previous one, it falls short in terms of storytelling and entertainment. Sonic isn't as funny anymore, Jim Carrey's character is starting to look like a stereotypical villain, and the new characters utterly lack depth. The only enjoyable parts are the wedding and the dance battle. The series's main draw is imitation; you can spot influences from other works in several action scenes, but due to budget constraints, the effects are just average. Yet a movie like this still manages to have a higher box office numbers than the first one, proving that this IP is still quite popular.

I'd give it a 4.5 out of 10. It's not up to par with the first movie. I just can't stand this kind of live-action animation without any standout features. Jim Carrey's efforts feel out of place, and both the male and female leads have been reduced to mere tools. Adding the red and yellow hedgehog characters seems like a nod to the original game (even though I haven't played it yet), but it reduces the excitement of Sonic's high-speed escapades.

I definitely liked this more than the last movie! Up until they teleported to the wedding using a ring, the plot doesn't have many twists and turns, and the whole story feels like a thin, clichéd superhero tale of saving society — but it really picks up once the yellow and red hedgehog gets involved. It's awesome to see them become buddies and team up to beat the big boss - that's the kind of story we all love! And Tails is just so cute! The special effects are top-notch, and that golden Sonic looks so cool! Looking forward to seeing you get even stronger and change colors in the next movie, my boy!

Compared to the first movie, this one feels less geared toward kids, maybe because there's less interaction between humans and cartoon characters, and it's more focused on the alien hedgehog's story and capturing real human emotions. With so many disappointing sequels lately, I'm pleasantly surprised by the world-building of this one. It's definitely going to keep raking in the cash, especially when some theaters haven't shown the film yet. And the future development of the Sonic universe, sequels, and spin-offs is also something to look forward to.

This movie continues the fun from the previous one, and Jim Carrey really steals the show. The visuals still need work, and some of the subplots, like Rachel's wedding, could definitely be axed since they don't add anything to the main story, vibe, or pace. This movie's meant for kids, but I don't think they'll get the humor that stems from trickery in a relationship. Honestly, a two-hour run time for a flick like this is just too much. Still, there was a lot of cheering when the easter egg popped up. Here's hoping for a sequel in the future.
