The film’s attempt at horror is passable, aided by decent sound and visual effects. The ambush sequences in the dark are chilling, but the werewolf's overly fantastical portrayal and the overly contrived father-daughter dynamic detract from the overall impact.

"The Invisible Man" set the bar so high that "Wolf Man" feels like a letdown. The adaptation misses its mark by focusing on the parent-child relationship instead of delving into the much more compelling question of which monster is more terrifying—the one at home or the one outside. While the director excels in crafting tension and offers a creative depiction of the werewolf's awakening, the storyline itself lacks intrigue.

Society today generally knows that staying in a cabin in the woods is not a good idea, especially when you’re in a monster movie. Back in 2020, director Leigh Whannell rekindled public interest in the Universal monster franchise with THE INVISIBLE MAN which I truly loved. He is now dipping his claw in another known monster, WOLF MAN. Loving father Blake (Christopher Abbott) receives word that his estranged father has passed away, so he convinces his journalist wife Charlotte (Julie Garner) and his young daughter Ginger (Matilda Firth) to go to Oregon to pack up his father’s things. One scary car crash and one “animal” scratch later, things aren’t looking good for this family. As Blake starts to deteriorate, Charlotte and Ginger have to make some hard decisions. I enjoyed this more than I thought I would. Blumhouse distributes amazing movies, but those are way too rare to see. Making the transformation seem like a degenerative disease was interesting, also how we got to see from his perspective was cool. An ongoing theme in this is generational trauma, which is extremely on the nose. Whannell does a great job giving us a unique spin of a known concept, in both this and THE INVISIBLE MAN. Sadly, he was more successful at it in the latter. With a very predictable story but great acting, good practical effects and sound design, and some unique aspects, I would still recommend WOLF MAN. Not as bad a movie as Blumhouse normally churns out these days.

Sorprendentemente buena.

Y siempre me hizo tenerle miedo".

Bien por esas referencias a Ginger Snaps y The shining.
