The Hurricane Heist (2018)★ 4.5/10

A dramatization of real events should never stray too far from the truth, especially when dealing with serious social injustice. This film leans heavily on a one-sided narrative, lionizing the protagonist while vilifying others. It turns a vital story into something disappointingly simplistic.

It’s a story full of potential—extraordinary characters paired with a rather legendary tale—yet the direction is disappointingly flat. Characters feel one-dimensional, the courtroom climax lacks punch, and even the investigative segments are rushed and uninspired. Carter’s final speech, which should’ve been rousing, ends up hollow and forgettable.
