Scorsese still knows how to do it. An important movie with an important story. I wish Lily Gladstone had more scenes where she wasn't sick, but I guess that's just the character. This old master still has it. Really remarkable.

The film's theme and tone are inconsistent, which is rather jarring for the audiences. While the heavy subject of persecuting Native Americans should invoke a somber tone, the film's stageplay-like ending, with a hint of satire, undermines the gravity of the events, making the story feel less impactful.

Contrary to Martin Scorsese's usual gangster film style, this film downplays the crime elements. Instead, it focuses on the Osage people, who attempt to integrate into modern civilization but are repeatedly exploited by Westerners. The final scene, where the Osage celebrate the year's end with a traditional dance, underscores how they can never return to their former free life.

This movie falls into the traditional storytelling category. Robert De Niro and Leonardo DiCaprio both give amazing performances. Even though they are playing antagonist roles that aren't exactly groundbreaking, the setting allows them to really showcase their talent. The portrayal of the American West in the 1920s is impressively done, creating a truly immersive experience. The ending, presented in the form of a radio play, adds a fresh twist by revealing each character's story and fate in an innovative way.

This movie does run a bit long, but it allows the main characters to showcase their talents fully. Luckily, their excellent acting keeps the film from feeling dull or dragged out. The first half may be relatively average, playing it safe, but once the external investigation kicks in, it becomes much more captivating, thanks to the adoption of eye-catching filming techniques often seen in genre films.

The story of this 3-hour-long movie is surprisingly simple. The real issue here is the perspective they chose for the screen adaptation. Instead of building suspense, the perspective lays everything out straightforwardly. The way they portrayed Ernest's inner conflicts was far from brilliant, it was honestly frustrating to watch. But I gotta give credit to the cinematography; they did a great job using lighting to show the characters' emotions and physical conditions. And those long shots? They were executed exceptionally well. Oh, and the soundtrack? It's delightful, has this unique local vibe, which complements the plot well.

I absolutely love this kind of movie. The lead actress totally killed it, and she totally deserves the nomination. The only thing that bums me out is how the movie puts too much focus on the male lead and doesn't give us a wider view. It totally missed the chance for an epic storyline. Plus, it didn't really capture the notion of a nation's rise and fall. Considering it's almost a three-hour-long movie, a more big-picture and historically grounded approach would've been way better.

The film maintains a consistent "blandness" throughout, with a straightforward narration. But oddly enough, that's what lends it a sense of realism, like a genuine historical account. It's likely why the director opted for this no-frills shooting style, keeping it simple and clean without any flashy gimmicks. I'm not too keen on Leonardo DiCaprio's character in this one, but the lead actress truly shines. However, the supporting characters don't leave much of an impact, lacking screen time to develop further.

Even in the 20th century, the unabated violence against Native Americans by white Americans reveals the original sin of this nation. Take a deep breath and watch this profound film; it's more enlightening than last semester's history class.

Performances, cinematography, artistry, music, pacing... all masterfully executed. Just watching De Niro smack around Leonardo is worth the price of admission.

watched it very attentively, but because there were too many characters, I couldn't tell who was who from the previous murders. It wasn't until the trial scene that I helped to learn it again. Perhaps this is how an epic about fringe characters in a fringe zone should be made. The fate of the characters, usually explained in the form of subtitle cards in the end, is also very consistent with the characteristics of the times and is expressed in the form of a live radio drama.
