"Burning" is not a social critique but a philosophical exploration of existential meaning, unrelated to class or hierarchy. Conversely, "Parasite" is a straightforward tale of class conflict. While technically impeccable, the film's blatant symbolism—like the smell, the rock, and the cockroach—makes its metaphors almost too obvious. "Burning" warrants multiple viewings, whereas "Parasite" is impactful in a single, focused watch. Technical mastery of "Parasite" overshadows its narrative depth.

Similar to "Burning," "Parasite" explores class differences and the despair of the underprivileged, but unlike "Burning," the wealthy family in "Parasite" has done nothing wrong. Their disdain for Ki-taek’s odor is understandable, and prioritizing their family in a crisis is natural. Some plot points are implausible, feeling forced to heighten the final dramatic conflict.

I am completely captivated by the exceptional artistic quality of this movie! It takes dark comedy to the extreme, blending tragedy with humor. The audiovisual language is outstanding, especially in the parts depicting the contrast between the upper and lower classes in the rain-soaked city. The two plot twists in the script left me stunned until the very end, and it takes some time to fully appreciate certain parts of it. It's incredible how the director infused a commercial product with such depth and quality. I truly admire it!

Despite being a commercial film, Joon-ho Bong uses his unique filming techniques and satirical storytelling to prove that plot-driven dramas can effectively portray societal issues. This movie cleverly transforms class issues in Korean society into a suspenseful and intriguing story centered around compelling characters. It's incredibly engaging, and all the story details are so clear that I could understand fully what the director intended.

This movie is an audiovisual feast for the audience. From the first shot, it grabs your attention and conveys information effectively. Surprisingly, social issues are presented concisely and in visually appealing ways. The cross-cut editing between the three groups of characters creates a tense atmosphere. I think there are almost no unnecessary plotlines, which is a feat on its own. Overall, it's on par with "Memories of Murder" and might even be the director's best work, in my view.

Parasite

There are 10,000 places where the rich can have sex at home, but the poor are homeless when it rains heavily.

Fiercely original piece of work that highlights Bong's brilliance

When you are virtuous in doing something, everything seems easy. This film is a mathematical perfection in its development, very precise in its allegories to its central theme, very dynamic and with tremendous plot twists that leave you with a painted face in surprise because of the pleasure it gives to see a story that looks so simple , but it is a work of art to those of us who are looking for something new.

One in a billion

THIS is what great movies are made of: key word, layers. It says so much about Korean culture and class division, especially in the interactions between characters, and every plot point is extremely well thought out though it may not come across that way. Production design and cinematography are out of this world, again, clearly dividing each and every space, hinting at where things and people belong. Granted, it may get a little Tarantino-ey for some at the end and a bit over the top, but that's the difference between good movies and cinema. Cinema makes you experience things you don't necessarily understand- this is what Parasite will be a case-study in.

Bom mas não merecia o Oscar

Achei o filme bom, e com roteiro original. Mostrou o estilo de vida precário que muitas pessoas vivem na Coréia e a desigualdade social, mas não achei justo ter ganhado Oscar de melhor filme em 2020.

One of the best movies of the decade

South Korean director Bong Joon-ho’s masterpiece is a technical gem of cinema. In addition to its masterly visual narrative, “Parasite” tells an existing dichotomy through outstanding performances.
