gregórioJuly 21, 2024The film excels in its clever details and unexpected twists. The visual design is imaginative and serves as high-level satire. The seemingly kind elderly couple turn out to be notorious arms dealers who die from their own grenade during a hijacking, heightening the irony. The kitchen staff's background music while cooking is "The Internationale," foreshadowing the plot's direction while adding a layer of satire. However, the ending feels too abrupt, with a predictable twist and an open ending that struggles to encapsulate the film's core themes after all the satire and critique.

Renato_da_MattaJuly 21, 2024Ruben Östlund's ambition is clear, as he satirizes not just the upper or lower classes but humanity itself. Starting with gender relations, he expands to class consciousness, power structures, and societal forms, demonstrating that any seemingly unshakable emotional or social system can be easily dismantled. Both the cruise ship and the island represent the once closed, unbreakable spaces where the arrival of storms, pirates, or even a foreign jeweler can disrupt the established order, making those in power tremble.

AntoniaAJuly 21, 2024As the Palme d'Or winner at the 2022 Cannes Film Festival, this film was a revelation for me. Directed by Ruben Östlund, who previously won the Palme d'Or for "The Square," this is his first English-language film. The film's unconventional three-part structure introduces different characters and focuses in each segment, making it initially hard to grasp but quickly engaging. The standout scene is the debate between the Russian "communist capitalist" and the "socialist" cruise ship captain during the shipwreck scene, which is brilliantly executed.

NickShaw_July 21, 2024"Triangle of Sadness" continues the absurdist comedic style of "The Square," yet its social critique is rather superficial, laden with symbolic gestures. The film feels like a cinematic version of "The White Lotus." The third act, borrowing themes from "Lord of the Flies," explores social order and power dynamics on a deserted island. However, the attempt to delve deeper ends up being clichéd, exposing weaknesses in the screenplay.

odín8susMarch 27, 2024This postmodern satirical fable comedy tries to break down and poke fun at different issues like gender and ideologies. However, most critiques and jokes barely scratch the surface, even though they have funny or thought-provoking elements, mostly just getting light or negative reactions from the audience. This blanket criticism might just lead to shallow reflection or self-amusement. It seems like Ruben Östlund has moved away from the creative spark he once had in his early works, where he explored awkward and conflicting everyday situations that gradually spiraled out of control. While there are glimpses of brilliance in the first act, they're overshadowed by the reckless, basic humor and clichés that take over in the later acts.

Karl5oscaMarch 27, 2024Even though "Triangle of Sadness" might look like it could be a huge success, it's really just a funny blockbuster, a far cry from the movies that snagged the Golden Palm Award in the past. Unlike "The Square," which tries to tackle weighty issues through satire, "Triangle of Sadness" isn't even trying to go there. Its main goal is to entertain the audience without delving into deeper discussions.

Nexus StrikerJanuary 31, 2023It’s Fine, It’s Good, But Not Great
A standout film of 2022. But the story is not extreme enough. In the film, the two low-level protagonists, Carl, and the toilet manager Abigail (who built a matriarchal clan in the jungle) are clearly the focus the ugliness of not worrying about the few but the unevenness is thoroughly described. The film is not critical of class. The movie is not critical of class. The movie is not as good as telling the black and black among the bottom people, let the story focus on a group of people, and thoroughly show the ugliness of human nature. In addition, leaving the rich and the poor on an island full of crises, the ugliness of human nature is not as simple as the movie shows. However, the scene inside the luxury yacht in the film is quite beautiful, like a hell feast specially prepared by the god of death, full of ritual sense.

After the clock was closed, another visitor arrived, and a boat sailed on a luxurious cross-sea trip. The daimyo's dinner party was immediately appointed, but the captain refused to open another ship. When the storm comes and the passengers are in danger, there is an unexpected change, the balance is broken...
