This is a haunting adult fairy tale, where the beautiful visuals starkly contrast with the cruel world. Johnny Depp masterfully brings this heart-wrenching character to life. It’s impossible not to feel sorrow for Edward or to be moved by the poignant love between human and machine. When an impossible story repeatedly tugs at your heartstrings, it’s destined to become a classic.

Edward, with his scissor hands, is a natural outsider, and Tim Burton infuses those hands with tragic beauty. The film portrays the warmth and coldness of the world, and the purity of love. The story of people accepting Edward, only to later drive him back to his castle, is a reflection of human nature. They accept him for his hands, yet they also fear him for the same reason, while only one girl sees the lonely and pure soul beneath his pale complexion. But because of those hands, he can’t hold the one he loves or stay with her.

Any interpretation of the film seems futile. I can only marvel at the director's vivid depiction of the cold desires existing in a postmodern city. Cronenberg strives to portray a synesthetic experience, where the pain from scars is not exploited by the camera but instead evokes a sense of romance.

A film so cold it made me uncomfortable. The visuals, dialogue, and music continuously emphasize a repressive and cold emotion. Human primal desires are suppressed in an industrialized society, only to be released in various distorted ways. I understand the film's message, but I still couldn't fully immerse myself and empathize with the characters.

Being a product of its time, the film can't avoid the limitations of its era, which naturally affects the viewing experience. Interestingly, the movie doesn't focus on Batman's perspective but on the perspectives of others, offering only scant narration from Batman's viewpoint. Furthermore, the ending, which points out the main theme, is indeed groundbreaking, though it only briefly highlights it before moving towards a comical conclusion under a gothic extravaganza.

It's obvious that films are products of their time upon rewatching. The plot is somewhat chaotic, and many scenes feel incomplete, such as the chemical plant explosion. The female characters are also poorly developed, serving only as damsels in distress. However, Tim Burton's aesthetic for the architectures is outstanding. Bruce Wayne's home, Vicki Vale's residence, and the office of the former mob boss killed by the Joker are all magnificent. Every outfit worn by the leading lady is stunning.

How many people remember Johnny Depp as the brilliant actor from "Edward Scissorhands"? In the film, he portrays the psyche of a robot with scissors for hands so vividly. This truly is a romantic and melancholic adult fairytale.

This is a uniquely romantic fairytale and one of Tim Burton's most iconic works. I love Edward Scissorhands' steadfastness and dedication to love. You can see Tim Burton's many unconventional design concepts in everything from the acting, costumes, sets, lighting, to the cinematography.

Fantasy and loneliness

We can’t choose who we fall in love with, but we can choose what to do about it. This is one of Tim Burton’s most beautiful movies and a story full of love, honesty and tenderness.

A beautiful love story

With a beautiful interpretation of the hedgehog's dilemma, "Edward Scissorhands" is a movie about overcoming fears and creating emotional ties. A story we definitely can identify ourselves on.
