The protagonist seems determined to end his life, yet his search for someone to confirm his death is, at its core, a silent plea for help. Every step he takes—seeking the right person, feeling the warmth of the sunset, embracing the touch of raindrops, or choosing a burial site with a view of the entire city—reveals his inner struggle. His hesitation in the face of death only underscores his deep reverence for life. I truly admire this film.

The film spent 20 minutes introducing its central conflict—suicide—then delivers its major twist three-quarters in. Abbas Kiarostami’s casting is meticulous: professional actors play key roles, while non-professionals lend authenticity to others. The dialogue is purposeful, realistic, and rich in subtext.
