While Wes Anderson’s aesthetic in this film is still somewhat raw, the beginnings of his signature style are already apparent. A particular highlight is the soundtrack. Mark Mothersbaugh’s playful and vibrant score captures the essence of youth, while the tracks by Cat Stevens, John Lennon, and The Who add a nostalgic touch, effectively enhancing the audience’s emotional connection to the film.

A thoroughly enjoyable film, filled with deadpan humor and exaggerated high school antics, yet by the end, there's an undeniable sense of melancholy. Who hasn’t experienced the pangs of first love and adolescent heartache? Despite the bitterness, the sweetness of young love shines through.
