Disney's first feature-length animation and the first-ever feature-length sound animation with colour in history - its historical significance is unparalleled being the inaugural Disney Princess film. Although Snow White's character might seem unappealing by today's standards, she remains a highly popular Disney princess. The film's production quality is exceptional for its time, and its art style doesn't feel outdated even until now. However, the main storyline is short, interweaved with musical segments that don't integrate well.

Based on a Grimm Brothers' fairy tale and produced by Disney, it's the first feature-length animated film in cinematic history. This film's artistic achievement lies in its expanding the potential of animated movies beyond short films, use of a multi-plane camera, and giving the animation depth, perspective, and layer. The story, set design, sound, direction, animation, music, and color offers the audience an extraordinarily immersive viewing experience.

As the first traditional hand-drawn animated feature film combining sound and picture, it changed the structure of animated films and gave them the same dramatic tension and emotional resonance as live-action films for the first time. While retaining the whimsical and surreal charm unique to animation, the film toned down some of the characters' styles and movements, making the characters as natural and innocent as possible, and making it easier for the audience to empathize with the characters. The barrier between animation and reality is seemingly broken for the first time through the efforts of Disney's Imagineers.

Roger Ebert is right in saying that the focus of the movie's depiction is not Snow White herself, but the world she lives in. ① Audio-visually, it was the first time in history utilizing the multiplane camera for animation. This technology enabled animation to have a parallax effect and depth-of-field for the first time ever, thus revolutionizing the visual experience of animation. ② Many sequences are filled with the unique expressive power of animation, as well as the unique visual experience of animation which transcends the laws of physics. ③ It retains the high standard of exaggerated body language based on effective characterization. ④ However, its limitations are obvious too. As a traditional melodramatic movie, the pace is too slow and the climax is not dramatic enough.

I had some nightmares thanks to this movie when I was a child. The scene which the Evil Queen becomes that ugly old woman is scary, the setting is dark and shady. Despite that, I’m always surprised by the animation they were able to do at that time: the movements of the characters are subtle and most of the movie is light and colorful.
