8.3 out of 10. The cinematography and art direction are top-notch, with gorgeous visuals that show real craftsmanship. The musical and dance numbers are well done, and I really enjoyed the final big performance. But some of the musical and dance parts feel separate from the main story, as if they're just there to show off. The story could use more drama, and the ending feels rushed. The casting of the female lead just doesn't quite match how the movie describes her in the setting.

This movie is empty, tedious, and superficial. The choreography was flashy, but it didn't have any soul. Those intense colors and Technicolor effects didn't make it better for me; they just made me hate it even more. I even fell asleep a few times watching it in the theater. It might've been slightly better if it didn't have that pointless happy ending.

The story starts with an intriguing premise, but the ending feels a little too abrupt. It kinda gets caught up in the romance between the two protagonists and kinda leaves the other characters in the dust. But the music and that final dance sequence are just incredible. With all that jazz, tap, and everything flowing seamlessly in those fancy settings, the actors don't even need to sing a note. They use their bodies to tell the story, and it's more than enough. Gene Kelly is like a burst of sunshine and happiness on screen, always making you smile when he's around. Even with all the tech we have today, it's crazy to think that sometimes we just can't top the creativity and imagination of that period.

The way the lighting, colors, actors, and props interact in a constantly shifting geometric dance, along with the movements of the characters, creates what Gilles Deleuze terms the "Global Movement”. This dizzying effect is what truly connects us to our sense of existence in the world. The well-constructed house at the beginning, the one-man "band" in the middle, and the seamless scene transitions at the end of the film all demonstrate that Vincente Minnelli not only has a keen grasp of the overall structure of the film but also actively experiments with ways to stimulate viewer's senses.

The entire movie is brimming with romance, which is the trademark of Paris and also characteristic of musicals from that era, isn't it? The really long dance sequence before the finale is quite creative, but the big reunion as the ending is a bit puzzling.
