I really like the cinematography of this film—steady yet lively and focused. Varda's representative work when she was 34 years old. From a delicate female perspective, it depicts some authentic sides of humanity. In the end, the audience realizes with her that freedom comes from the reality of life, stripped of symbolic meanings. The short film "On the Bridge" within the film also vividly carries philosophical meaning.

I continue to be amazed every time I watch this short film how Marker ingeniously uses images to capture memory, play with time and rewrite history, all with a touch of simplicity and poignancy. It packs a powerful punch while explores themes of love, existence, time and memories in a fascinating and melancholic way.

Gosto muito da cinematografia deste filme — estável, mas animada e focada. Trabalho representativo de Varda quando tinha 34 anos. A partir de uma perspectiva feminina delicada, retrata alguns lados autênticos da humanidade. Es una película impresionante que utiliza una muerte accidental para reflexionar sobre la controversial vida del protagonista. De un momento a otro, sin previo aviso, refuta la legitimidad de la guerra representada en toda la película. Aunque dura más de tres horas, el desarrollo de los personajes es tan básico que deja mucho a la imaginación del espectador.
