Remigio3October 24, 2024I liked the beginning, but after watching the whole thing, my main impression was feeling disconnected from the characters. Their decisions often lacked a tangible context, relying too heavily on straightforward narrative cues. Most characters only exhibited strong emotions in select moments, lacking continuity. Plus, the depiction of their actions felt rough and overly detailed—there was “action,” but it lacked the sharp, nuanced intensity that could have made it more engaging.

toKoralíOctober 24, 2024Alain Delon’s breakout role in Jean-Pierre Melville’s noir classic. The film’s restrained narrative style, meticulous attention to detail, and sparse dialogue combined with ambient sounds make it a standout. Delon’s portrayal of the cold, solitary, and stoic hitman has become an iconic figure in cinema. The tension-filled subway stalking scene and the crisp ending are unforgettable. It’s a fascinating exploration of whether a hitman can balance professional integrity with personal loyalty—or if he’s doomed to self-destruction.

SM1999March 28, 2024For me, the best spy movie: A stoic and cold Alain Delon. An assassin who lives and acts by his own rules, accountable to no one but himself. A bleak, bluish, foggy France. Melville exploring the possibilities of the art of chasing in the labyrinthine subway. The simplicity and silence of a character that captures all the depth of a true professional, especially as he explores subjectivity and loneliness within the genre. Always eager for a rewatch!
