Werckmeister Harmonies (2000)★ 8.1/10

The black-and-white visuals and glacial pacing somehow create immense suspense. This is a film about violence—not just physical violence, but the violence that underlies social structures themselves. It argues that society is born from violence, sustained by it, and ultimately destroyed by it.

Absolutely stunning. With unbroken long takes, Béla Tarr crafts a film of haunting depth. The sheer technical ambition is breathtaking, with seven cinematographers and over two hours of long shots, and every frame feels meticulously composed and emotionally raw.
