I really enjoyed this film. It tells a classic story of cultural clash, depicting the struggles of Greek immigrants in America. It offers a glimpse into the lesser-seen side of Greek-American family life—its hierarchical structure, tight-knit bonds, and deep-rooted traditions. While the elders can be strict, their love for their children is undeniable, and their respect for their children's choices adds a heartwarming layer to the story.

The film starkly contrasts how parents treat their sons versus their daughters, highlighting gender roles and societal expectations. Why is it shameful for a woman to remain unmarried past a certain age, while men face no such pressure? Can women achieve full independence—both personally and financially? Absolutely. The idea that marriage should be an obligation rather than a choice is deeply flawed.

Nia Vardalos' script is extremely funny. It's a romantic comedy, yes, but with a sharp sarcastic and sweet point of view that makes you love each character for who they are. Lovely and quite unique.

Love it, opa!

One of my favorite ever comedies not only just because it's simply hilarious, but it's because it's Greeks making fun in such an endearing way of their own culture, in that way only a native can, which is always fascinating to see. A great movie (which didn't need a sequel, though) I watch every time I come across it and never tire of.

Eu realmente gostei desse filme.
