Still a great film upon second watch. Excellent actors, especially Bruno Ganz as Adolf Hitler. The screenplay by Bernd Eichinger is excellent, as is the direction by Oliver Hirschbiegel. The crème de la crème of German actors are cast.
The story of the director’s downfall is remarkable and dramatic. Today’s dictators should watch this film carefully.

Through a relatively objective lens, "Downfall" recounts the days following the Nazi defeat, from Hitler himself to the ordinary citizens caught in the chaos. The film avoids glamorization, adhering to historical authenticity to depict the suffering inflicted by war. It lays bare the ugliness of human nature and the loss of conscience in times of conflict, offering an unflinching portrait of war’s devastating consequences.

It is undeniable that "Downfall" is anti-war. By focusing on the Nazi perspective, the film adopts a controversial but compelling approach. It humanizes its characters without glorifying them, challenging stereotypes and adding nuance to its portrayal. Instead of heavy-handed moralizing, it emphasizes the grotesque and brutal human cost of defeat, capturing the complexities of extremism through vivid depictions of death and despair.

As últimas horas
