"The Other Boleyn Girl" adapts one of the most dramatic chapters in Tudor history, yet turns it into a tawdry soap opera of lust and betrayal. The film’s biggest misstep isn’t its historical liberties, but the way it reduces the Boleyn sisters to pawns in a man’s game, stripping away the political insight and human complexity of the original story.

The film falls short of the novel’s emotional depth. It makes significant changes to the plot, making the characters flat, and draggy in its storytelling. Natalie Portman delivers the only standout performance. What made the book compelling—its psychological nuance and rich atmosphere—barely registers onscreen.

There’s Disappointment Only

The plot of the movie is so disappointing! The story turns the infighting in the royal family into a dissatisfied Henry VIII, who began to do whatever he wanted in order to satisfy his own selfish desires. The movie misinterprets the founding of the Anglican Church as a woman's desire for power, and the film is shot with such seriousness that it is simply absurd! It is obviously a political film about Britain getting rid of the Holy See and the Holy Roman Empire, but it turned out to be like this, with no coherence between the plots and extremely sloppy editing. I am so disappointed.
