Sunshine (2007)★ 7.4/10

My Disney Plus subscription is running out at the end of this month, and because of that, I'm catching up with a few classic sci fi films on my watchlist. LIke Solaris, recently, and Sunshine yesterday,
I was positively surprised by this film!
The plot is a bit bollocks but still plausible. The set design is great, and the cast is amazing, including a young Cillian Murphy and Rose Byrne.
The VFXs hold up well.
There are a few clichés in the plot and characters but all in all, it's very entertaining.

“Sunshine” is a film filled with elements of death, painted in a dark and oppressive tone. Despite the bleak environment, I felt the film revealed many genuine human emotions. Perhaps the physicists had their doubts or different perspectives on the mission initially, but as they watched their comrades fall one by one, they became resolute in their determination to save the dying sun.

Death permeates the entire film. The protagonists are on a doomed journey, where the internal conflict between the immense responsibility of saving humanity and the personal desire to survive becomes the spot of interest. For the main character, the sacrifice of his companions becomes a means to prolong his life and complete the mission. Even though I’ve seen many films like this, I was still moved by how the characters grappled with life and death.

While the plot alone might not merit an 8/10, Sunshine stands out for its artistic depiction of the beauty of physics, setting it apart from similar films. The insertion of religious motifs within the vastness of space proves to be both a triumph and a misstep, burdening the film with undue heaviness. Yet the moment of detonation, as witnessed by the commanding officer on the bridge, offers a memorable spectacle of force and unreal beauty, marking the film as a visually stunning piece of scientific cinema.

Danny Boyle's fascination with the unpredictable nature of humanity shines through, regardless of whether he's tackling crime, coming-of-age, horror, or sci-fi genres. Sunshine finds a harmonious balance between visual spectacle and thematic depth, demonstrating Boyle's adept handling of pacing and narrative tension. Although the final antagonist's appearance disappointingly drags the film towards an anticlimactic conclusion, it cannot overshadow the film's overall excellence and sincerity.

Wow... Just marvelous. There is a tonal shift towards the end, but in my view, it didn't hurt the experience. Everybody's acting here is top notch and I loved the score. It screams the ¨ desperate attempt to find hope¨.

tengo que decir que es un 7/10. Y es una de las notas más frustrantes que he puesto jamás, porque pudo ser un 10.

Tem uma quantidade boa de coisas aqui que não comprei, mas levando em consideração sua época de produção e exacerbação do assunto usado de maneira posterior no mais diferentes níveis, de produções medíocres até muito boas, digamos que Sunshine cumpre muito bem sua "missão", questiona pontos interessantes, possui um bom dilema humano e uma ciência até que certo ponto crível. Teve um momentinho ali que eu desanimei um pouco, mas isso é culpa do Chris Evans (brincadeira), mas o longa procura se elevar, e o final...nossa, que final bonito, quase choro.

Embora o enredo por si só possa não merecer uma nota 8/10, Sunshine se destaca por sua representação artística da beleza da física, o que o diferencia de filmes semelhantes. A inserção de motivos religiosos na vastidão do espaço prova ser tanto um triunfo quanto um passo em falso, sobrecarregando o filme com um peso indevido.
