Neighboring Sounds (2012)★ 7.5/10

As the title suggests, sound plays a central role in shaping the film’s atmosphere. Ambient noises—barking dogs, washing machines, fireworks—create a vivid sense of space and unease. The careful sound design enhances scenes that might otherwise seem mundane, giving the film a quiet but persistent tension.

The editing is one of the film’s greatest strengths. What begins as a collection of unrelated vignettes slowly converges into a broader social commentary. Once the characters' relationships become clear, the narrative locks into place, revealing a nuanced portrait of Brazilian urban life and its underlying class tensions.
