Die My Love (2025)★ 6.1/10

Disappointed. Two great actors deliver their dialogue here in such an obviously written way (whatever that means to you). It is as though they were only given one run through. None of it feels lived in. The couple feels try-hard. "Oooo we still day-drink and talk about fucking and actually say 'fuck' even though our baby's right there. We have dance parties." It's like if a character in <i>Girls</i> wrote a script about their dream of moving from the city without realising it reveals nakedly how pick-me they seem. "I know who John Cassavetes is. Do you? Do you!?" Harmonica. The flies. Flies!

It looks good, and JLAW and RPATZ look good, in an Instagram Ad shot by Terrence Malick way, but <i>Die My Love</i> pales in comparison to its obvious influences. Obviously this is not a film trying to please everyone. Perhaps my tastes are outside of its target. I get that in actuality, in addition to being about relationships (as simple as that is), it's about motherhood, and post-partum, and has in mind a lot of the same themes as <i>If I Had Legs, I'd Kick You</i>, the latter just prioritized the writing over the aesthetic, and it is a better movie for it.

<i>Mother<i> is goes further and is better for it.

Ends with a <i>Riverdale<i> finale vibe (derogatory).

Idk I wanted more from what I sort of perceive as part of Jennifer Lawrence's Wreturn.

Ooooooo life on ye olde homestead. It gets better as it goes, thankfully, because chaos brings conflict, even if I find it all too performative.

"Come on... I don't want to shit in the bush. I want to shit in the toilet." Is really funny though.

En una zona rural una mujer trata de mantener la cordura mientras lucha contra sus problemas emocionales, y a pesar del apoyo familiar su comportamiento es cada vez más inestable lo cual hace que se sienta muy reprimida y angustiada.

Es una película que entra dentro del tema de la maternidad y como no todas las mujeres están preparadas psicológicamente para afrontar esta situación.. y hay casos que van más allá que la simple depresión postparto. Es rescatable la visión que se presenta en este tipo de películas porque no es conclusiva o trata de dar respuestas fáciles sino que te hace reflexionar y comprender que el mundo es mucho más amplio y diverso de lo que a veces entendemos.
Quizá la protagonista nos caiga mal desde un principio al ser un personaje tan cerrado no entendemos cuál es la causa de su malestar pero nos hace reflexionar al vernos a nosotros mismos reflejados en los otros personajes que juzgan a la protagonista.

No hay que reducir el significado de esta película a la simple depresión posparto o a una persona con problemas mentales. Sino una reflexión sobre el dolor de la pérdida de un amor que no puede salvarse.

Good performances and some good cinematography, but I dunno... I feel like the clips of this movie will go crazy on socials. But as a whole, it felt underwhelming to a certain extent. It's a lot to think about, for sure, and I'm still puzzling over it. But would I recommend you watch it? .... mmm.... not really.

I’m a huge fan of both Jennifer Lawrence and Robert Pattinson. Her willingness to go beyond for a role. His eclectic film choices. They play a couple (Grace and Jackson) in the new movie DIE MY LOVE. This could’ve been so much better. Going into it, I thought it was about postpartum depression, but there’s clearly something more going on with Grace. She can go from 0 to 100 in a blink of an eye. The couple moves into Jackson’s father’s house, who passed away. They quickly have a son, then Grace starts to mentally deteriorate. My problem with this is that they show you a few flashbacks of their relationship, and Grace seems to be at the same level of volatility as the rest of the film. I understand postpartum depression is a very real and not really talked about disease, but it can’t be this bad. Director Lynne Ramsey has Lawrence doing some wild and feral things, which she absolutely goes for here. The people around her walk on eggshells, trying to figure out the best way to help her. Jackson is too calm for his own good. His mother Pam (Sissy Spacek) tells it like it is, but she has her own thing she’s not dealing with. His Uncle Harry (Nick Nolte) barely talks but has some common ground with Grace, which is a great moment in a sea of misery and despair. I didn’t like being inside Grace’s mindset, which this film does pretty well. I wasn’t sure what was real or not. I kept questioning every choice somebody made. I appreciate Lawrence’s commitment to the role and the visual flair on display here, but the script is very messy and has things in it that seem just there to add random shock value. I’m sure DIE MY LOVE will resonate with some women, but not me.

Uma mulher grávida se muda com o marido para o fim do mundo, mas uma depressão pós-parto a leva à exaustão mental e à solidão.

Jennifer é o que me mantém assistindo. É hipnotizante vê-la interpretando essa personagem. Ela suga você para o caos em que está mergulhada.

Algumas mães podem se identificar com algumas questões abordadas, principalmente com a solidão, mesmo tendo o companheiro ao lado; com a superproteção; e com a busca por uma nova identidade diante dessa nova fase da vida.

Robert Pattinson interpreta um marido que tenta, mas não consegue compreender o que a esposa está passando. Na verdade, por ser uma situação tão complexa, ele faz o que pode. Sua mãe é quem o alerta sobre a depressão da esposa.

O filme é confuso, mas arrisco dizer que isso pode ser proposital, para mostrar a confusão mental em que a personagem de Jennifer se encontra. Você não sabe o que é real ou alucinação, assim como o final ambíguo. A história é ótima, os atores também; apenas o desenvolvimento do filme não me prendeu.

Mas Jennifer Lawrence é fenomenal, como sempre!!!

Realmente gostaria de ter lido o livro de Harwicz antes de checar esse aqui, até agora estou matutando a respeito e não consigo definir se de Die my love. A temática é necessária e importante de ser abordada e ter uma mulher foda na direção do projeto e outra atriz foda como protagonista dessa história é algo digno de nota, mas não sei, talvez tenha-se pesado a mão num surrealismo de deixar o espectador questionando os limites de uma imaginação febril. Tenho a impressão que algo na edição não bateu, se perdeu ou faltou e algumas imagens que se propunham impactar foram repetidas e repetidas a exaustão perdendo vitalidade. No mais Jennifer Lawrance está mais uma vez muito bem aqui, ela é grande.
